Purpose of the lab

The mission field today is undergoing various transformations as it confronts war, refugee crises, Islamic extremism, and the influx of diverse ideologies—changes further accelerated by social media. In an era of globalization and rapid information exchange, developments in one region no longer remain isolated; they influence multiple other areas. Within these organic interconnections, mission fields constantly affect one another and undergo dynamic changes.

In such times, it is more critical than ever to raise “Acts-like disciples” who live out the Gospel, demonstrate leadership that can transform the world through the Gospel, and reflect on how the Gospel can be practically applied to life.

This institute seeks to move beyond classical approaches that attempted to explain the entire world with a single grand narrative. Instead, it aims to deeply understand the actual trends and movements occurring in mission fields and interpret them through the lens of the Gospel. There are limits to explaining rapidly changing and dynamic contexts using a few fixed frameworks. Therefore, the institute adopts a humble posture, considering the unique situations of each region, listening closely to the authentic core of each phenomenon, and engaging in Scripture-based communication and dialogue to better understand and serve both the mission fields and the world.

In particular, many regions—such as North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia—still urgently need the Gospel. These areas, with their distinct historical, cultural, and religious backgrounds, possess unique characteristics. The institute plans to understand these regions from a diachronic perspective, analyzing them in light of their historical flows and interrelationships.

Moreover, new mission players are emerging from Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. In this dynamic era, the institute aims to support their missionary passion and pursue cooperative leadership with them, fulfilling a new missionary role.

Rather than seeking academic achievement, this institute aims to contribute practically to fieldwork by providing Scripture-based field analysis. By deeply understanding the characteristics of each region and staying attuned to global changes, while firmly holding to the essence of the Gospel, we seek to realize a missionary vision that connects local mission fields with the world.
