Mobilization/Training

William Carey, considered the father of modern Protestant missions, understood that establishing a mission organization was critical to realizing world evangelization. Recognizing the importance of mobilizing believers to obey the Great Commission, Carey founded the Baptist Missionary Society (BMS) in 1792. This event spurred significant missionary awakening in Britain and worldwide. Today, while some still see missions as a ministry for individual churches or individuals, the past 200 years of Protestant missions history show that mission organizations are essential for fulfilling the Great Commission. Mission organizations are critical for strategic field ministry and team efforts, and also for systematically mobilizing missionary resources and providing missionary training.

In the 20th and 21st centuries, Dr. Ralph Winter played a key role in shaping the global missions movement. He proposed that to fulfill the Great Commission, missionary mobilization, mission education/training (including the widespread use of the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course), mission research and information sharing (USCWM, now Frontier Ventures), and networks of missionary cooperation (partnership between churches and mission organizations, as exemplified by the Lausanne Movement) are all necessary. He systematized and concretized these concepts.

In fact, most mission programs and materials used by mission organizations for missionary education and training today are based on resources developed by Dr. Ralph Winter’s team.

The current global missions endeavor rests upon the prayers, struggles, and dedication of countless faithful predecessors.

MMI conducts mission education, mobilization, and training ministries for all Christians to help complete the Great Commission. Historically, the Great Commission has never advanced effortlessly. Without a strong will to deny human plans and intentions in favor of submitting fully to God’s will and plan, the Great Commission will not be fulfilled.

Therefore, MMI mobilizes all Christians for missions and provides practical training for their active participation in ministry.
